Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said the increased frequency would reduce waiting time for commuters.
“Commuters from Padang Besar can expect a train every 20 minutes during peak hours in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening.
“Meanwhile, commuters from Butterworth will have access to trains every half hour throughout the day,” he told reporters.
Trains travelling between Padang Besar and Butterworth used to have a frequency of 60 minutes.
With the increased frequency, the number of daily trips has been increased from 26 to 36 between Padang Besar and Butterworth and from 12 to 16 trips between Padang Rengas and Butterworth.
Loke said these improvements would meet the needs of commuters using the KTM Komuter service in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak.
