PETALING JAYA:
Umno’s Simpang Renggam vice-chief Onn Hafiz Ghazi will not vie for any leadership post in the coming party polls, saying he wants to focus on serving Johor as its menteri besar.

Instead, he said, he will only contest for the divisional chief’s post.

“I want to focus on my administration and developing my constituency and the rest of Johor,” Onn Hafiz said in a Facebook post today, dismissing rumours that he was eyeing the youth chief’s post.

It was reported yesterday the Umno Simpang Renggam grassroots were pushing for Onn Hafiz to throw his hat into the ring for the youth chief’s post.

Onn Hafiz, the grandson of Umno’s founder Onn Jaafar, said he had consulted his family, friends and other leaders before making his decision.

The Machap assemblyman hoped that members would respect his decision not to contest for any central positions.

Umno’s elections are being conducted in stages from this month until March 18.
