Hasmuni joins race to succeed Asyraf as Umno Youth chief

KUALA LUMPUR:
Umno Youth secretary Hasmuni Hassan has thrown his hat into the ring in the race to succeed Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki as Umno Youth leader.

Hasmuni, who is head of Kubang Pasu Umno division’s youth wing, also introduced his team, including Larkin state assemblyman Hairi Mad Shah, who is Johor Umno Youth chief, who will contest the post of Umno Youth vice chief.

Others in his team are Merlimau assemblyman Dr Akmal Saleh (prospective Umno Youth secretary), Naim Mokhtar (Umno Youth treasurer) and Sollehin Tajie (Umno Youth information chief). They would be appointed to those posts if Hasmuni won.

He said his focus, and that of his team, is to help the party win the next general election and ensure the return of youth support for Umno and Barisan Nasional.

Recently, Subang Umno chief Armand Azha Abu Hanifah said he would contest the Umno Youth chief’s post.

Umno’s elections are being held from Feb 1-March 18. Branch-level elections are being held from Feb 1-26, followed by the elections for the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings at the national level on March 11.

The divisional elections as well as contests for seats on the Umno Supreme Council will be held on March 18.
