RSN Rayer, MP for Jelutong, lodged a report saying that menteri besar Sanusi Nor’s remarks were subversive in nature, despite being repeatedly told that Penang is a state on its own.
Sanusi’s remarks were made in a speech at a youth event in Alor Setar, with a clip posted on Facebook on Jan 26. He said Penang was on lease from Kedah, and added that he had doubts over its sovereignty.
Rayer said: “It has been long established that Penang is a sovereign state under the Federal Constitution. For Sanusi to question the legitimacy of the constitution is irresponsible.”
He contended that Sanusi’s remarks were subversive, disruptive and questioned the powers and prerogatives of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
FMT has contacted Sanusi for comment.
