He said this was agreed to by Bersatu and PAS after taking into consideration the fact that PAS had won 37 of the 45 state assembly seats in the 2018 elections.
However, he told FMT that this position was not final and could be renegotiated, and it was possible that PAS seats could be contested by Bersatu.
“In principle, we have an agreement, which is for Bersatu to be given priority in contesting Umno-held seats.
“PAS may still contest in areas where it’s currently not represented, such as those under the Gua Musang and Jeli parliamentary constituencies, whereas some PAS areas may be contested by Bersatu,” he said.
Kamaruddin said there was no feeling of discontent or dissatisfaction over seat distribution in Kelantan, adding that discussions were held amicably.
“We are aiming to win all 45 state seats, just like how (PN won) all 14 parliamentary seats in Kelantan at the general election,” he added.
He also said Gerakan, another PN partner, would not be contesting any seat in Kelantan as the majority of voters there were Malays.
Gerakan candidates would be fielded in states with constituencies where non-Malays make up the majority.
