PETALING JAYA:
Former education minister Maszlee Malik has apologised for using profanities in a TV drama which he appeared in recently, and has asked Astro to censor the scene.

In a statement on Facebook today, Maszlee said his dialogue was inappropriate and has caused some of the viewers to feel troubled. He hoped Astro would censor the scene to protect the sensitivity of others.

“Personally, I admit I made a mistake when playing the role as an evil prime minister (in a drama series). I used words that were not appropriate, and it has troubled the emotions and thoughts of some of the viewers.

“I hope Allah will also forgive my mistake and bring us all together in goodness,” he said.

He said films and dramas were effective mediums to spread a message, but it should not go to the extent of offending people.

In an outcry recently, the public reportedly criticised Maszlee’s script in the drama series Kudeta, describing it as misogynistic and insulting towards women.

Maszlee plays the role of an imprisoned prime minister in the political drama, which currently airs on Astro. His role is a cameo in the series.
