“Thanks for the offer, but I remain loyal as an ordinary Umno member,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
The former Umno Youth chief’s statement was in response to PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar stating that PN and PAS were ready to accept Khairy should he lose his Umno membership.
Earlier today, Samsuri, who is also the Terengganu menteri besar, described the former health minister as a “great leader” who was open-minded and able to carry out his duties well.
Umno is expected to hold a Supreme Council meeting tomorrow night to discuss action against Khairy for claiming that dirty tactics were employed to ensure a no-contest motion for Umno’s two top posts was passed at the recent general assembly.
Khairy previously claimed that the motion to bar contests for the posts of party president and deputy president would most likely be bulldozed through when it came up for a vote.
In a TikTok video, the former Rembau MP alleged that name tags on the chairs of delegates had been removed so as to bring “imported delegates” to push through the motion.
The party’s general assembly passed the motion to bar contests for Umno’s presidency and deputy presidency, ensuring that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Mohamad Hasan would not be challenged at the party’s elections, which must be held by May 19.
