SANDAKAN:
Seven military personnel from the Joint Task Force Headquarters 2 (ATB 2) were rescued after the patrol boat they were travelling in capsized near Pulau Nunuyan, near here, yesterday morning.

According to Sabah police commissioner Idris Abdullah, the incident occurred at 11am when their patrol boat was hit by big waves.

In a statement, he said the Viper 7 patrol boat had left Pulau Bakungan Kecil for the ATB 2 jetty at Batu Sapi here for the purpose of refuelling and logistics.

“However, at approximately 11am, when the patrol boat arrived near the sea off Pulau Nunuyan, it was hit by big waves, causing it to capsize,” he said.

He said all the personnel were rescued by a patrol boat of the 15th Battalion of the General Operations Force and taken to the Sandakan marine police operational base for treatment and documentation.
