Ramasamy lost to Pakatan Harapan’s R Yuneswaran in the polls. Yuneswaran, who is a PKR central council member, defeated the MIC treasurer Ramasamy in a four-cornered contest, with a majority of 5,669 votes.
In an interview with The Malaysian Insight, Ramasamy accused Yuneswaran and his agents of violating election rules regarding campaign materials.
He also alleged that his rival had distributed food parcels to voters on the campaign trail.
“I have all the evidence for this,” he said.
While BN and PH are partners in the unity government, Ramasamy said the filing of the petition was “not a party issue”.
“This is my right as a candidate. I have done what I should do.”
He added that he had informed MIC president SA Vigneswaran of his petition so it could be brought to the attention of the BN leadership.
Ramasamy said he had reported the alleged violations to the Election Commission (EC) and the police but no action was taken.
He had also filed complaints against returning officer Ungku Tahir Ungku Zakaria and the EC for not complying with the rules of the election process, the news portal reported.
Yuneswaran, who has received the petition writ from Ramasamy, denied any wrongdoing and said the petition will have implications on the unity government.
“I don’t know why this petition was filed,” he said.
“BN should maintain good relations with PH and the unity government.”
The petition is set for case management in the Muar election court tomorrow.
The petition was one of 11 filed by candidates to challenge results from the 15th general election.
