PETALING JAYA:
Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has denied there is a “cold war” between state leaders and the federal government.

He said a miscommunication caused the absence of state leaders when Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim visited Terengganu last Thursday, Bernama reported.

Samsuri said the state government had no problem working with the federal government especially in matters of common interest.

“What happened was due to a communication problem and I don’t want to prolong this issue,” he told reporters.

“During the prime minister’s recent visit, I was not informed of any specific business with the state government. Therefore, we only helped in terms of logistics and transport … nothing else was requested,” he said.

Samsuri said the previous practice was that the Prime Minister’s Office would inform the state government of the purpose of the visit and who was involved.

The Terengganu state government is run by PAS, while the opposition comprises assembly members from Barisan Nasional (Umno), which is a partner of Anwar’s unity federal government.

Samsuri said so far the state government had not been called for any official meeting with the federal government.

However, he said he was expected to attend a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday involving the prime minister, heads of state governments and Cabinet ministers.
