SHAH ALAM:
Local authorities in Selangor are to revise their procedures on the care of animals kept in pounds, after a royal rebuke on abandoned dogs being neglected in Kuala Langat.

State executive councillor Ng Sze Han said the revised procedures would be presented to the state government to enable improvements to be made at the animal pounds.

He said the state government will also discuss the need to upgrade animal pounds.

Yesterday, the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, expressed sadness and disappointment over the treatment of abandoned dogs at the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) pound.

She urged the authorities to improve the management procedures at animal pounds.

Her comments came after several photographs and video clips were widely shared showing the poor condition of dogs at a pound believed to be under the supervision of MPKL.
