PUTRAJAYA:
The volleyball coach who slapped two teenage players will no longer be allowed to train anyone, especially children, says youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh.

At a press conference, Yeoh also said the Malaysian Volleyball Association has revoked the coach’s licence.

A video showing the coach slapping the two players had gone viral recently. At the time, he was guiding the Melaka team in the Under-14 Youth Volleyball Championship.

The coach, Saiful Hadee Amar, 44, has since publicly apologised for his action and said he was ready to face the consequences for the incident in Johor.

Education minister Fadhlina Sidek, who was also at the press conference, said she had studied the ministry’s report on the incident.

She said Saiful will face action under Regulation 4(2)(d) of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.

“In line with the rule, the state education department can take action against any individual who has acted in a manner that is inappropriate, goes against regulations, or has raised public concern,” she said.

“However, there is room for Saiful to appeal this through a committee set up under the department.”

Yeoh also said the ministry is reviewing its newly formulated Safe Sport Code of Conduct, which she said will be introduced soon.
