Govt to speed up high-impact projects, says Rafizi

The projects will focus on food security, food value chain, renewable energy and green technology.

Rafizi Ramli said the government is also looking to add new projects in important sectors.
PUTRAJAYA:
The government will be fast-tracking high-impact projects, especially those pertaining to food security, food value chain, renewable energy and green technology.

It will be included in the upcoming Budget 2023, says economic affairs minister Rafizi Ramli.

Rafizi said the government hoped to maintain a level of spending that would have a good impact not only on the country but also on the people. It will add new high-impact projects to existing ones, he added.

“The real value (of Budget 2023) will be announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“At the ministry, we are in charge of development projects, also known as development spending,” he told a press conference after attending the launch of OpenDOSM NextGen at the statistics department.

However, Rafizi declined to comment on whether the government would maintain or revise the allocation under Budget 2023, which was previously tabled by then finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz.

On Oct 7 last year, Zafrul tabled a RM372.3 billion budget for 2023, the biggest in the history of the country. Three days later, Parliament was dissolved to make way for the 15th general election.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, will be tabling a new budget at the Dewan Rakyat on Feb 24.

Rafizi, who is also PKR deputy president, said so far, there had been no instruction from Anwar for Cabinet members to declare their assets.

The Pandan MP said the matter was not discussed at Cabinet meetings.

Asked whether Anwar or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had instructed certain parties to declare their assets, Rafizi said he was not privy to that information.

Just before the previous general election, almost all of PKR’s 72 candidates had declared their assets in accordance with the party’s rules.
