PETALING JAYA:
A police inspector has pleaded not guilty to a rape charge and three counts of sexual assault involving a 16-year-old girl at his office in Yan, Kedah, on Dec 28.

Maliki Azmi, 35, an investigating officer with the Yan district police headquarters, was charged in the Sungai Petani sessions court before judge Roslan Hamid with using his authority to rape the girl, New Straits Times reported.

The charge under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Maliki also claimed trial to three separate charges under the Child Sexual Offences Act for committing sexual assault on the same victim, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping for each charge, if convicted.

He was accused of touching the girl’s private parts, forcing her to insert an object into her private parts, and forcing her to undress and show him her body.

Deputy public prosecutor Hizween Azleena Othman Kamal urged the court to impose bail of RM20,000 for the rape charge and RM15,000 for the sexual assault charges.

Maliki, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lower bail amount as he had lost his income. He also said he has a wife and parents to support and was in debt.

The court set bail of RM10,000 for the rape charge and RM15,000 for the sexual assault charges.

The case has been fixed for mention on Feb 6.

It was reported that a teenager had gone to the Yan district police headquarters on Dec 28  to lodge a report that she had been raped by her stepfather.

Three days later, the teenager lodged a report claiming that she was raped and sexually assaulted at the station.
