We can’t let burning embers bring down the house, Isham tells Annuar

PETALING JAYA:
Umno information chief Isham Jalil, in a response to sacked Ketereh division leader Annuar Musa, has said the party could not allow internal dissension to bring down the organisation.

Isham said he had also had a dream similar to the one that Annuar said he had, about a “house on fire”.

Umno confirmed earlier today that Annuar and two others had been expelled for disparaging the party and helping its rivals at the general election.

Annuar said in response that he loved “this house” and tried to put out the fire, but was forced out by the raging flames. “Now, I can only watch the fire from far,” said Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, in what was believed to be a reference to his expulsion.

In a Facebook posting, Isham thanked Annuar for sharing his dream and adding that he, too, had a similar dream last night.

“I dreamt that there were embers of a fire in our home. The fire wanted to consume our home so that we would be homeless and forced to stay in someone else’s home.

“That someone else is the one that started the fire, and he has long wanted to burn our home and kick us out. But before our home gets burned down, we need to get rid of these embers. Only then will our home be safe and our family happy,” said Isham.

Annuar, who was communications and multimedia minister in the previous government led by Ismail Sabri Yaakob, has been seen to be critical of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and in favour of closer ties between Umno and Bersatu.

However, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has described Umno as an enemy of Bersatu.

Umno had dropped Annuar and several other party stalwarts from its general election line-up last month. Annuar had been MP for Ketereh for two terms. The seat was won by Khlir Mohd Nor of Bersatu, representing Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Two other division leaders who have been sacked are Shamsiah Yasin and Fatimah Kassim, the Wanita chiefs of the Arau and Maran divisions. Shamsiah is the wife of former Arau division leader Shahidan Kassim, while Fatimah is the wife of Maran MP Ismail Abd Muttalib.

Shahidan and Ismail, both long-time MPs, were among those dropped from Umno’s election line-up. Shahidan, a four-term MP for Arau, and Ismail, a three-term MP for Maran, both contested on a PN ticket and were re-elected.

They were expelled from the party before the elections.
