Selangor Pejuang chief Harumaini Omar said this decision was made following a post-mortem meeting by the state party leaders last week.
“We are open to negotiate with other political parties or blocs on cooperation for the state election that will be held next year,” the Batang Kali assemblyman said in a statement.
Harumaini said Selangor Pejuang would look for allies while continuing to uphold its core principles, such as fighting against corruption, abuse of power, and kleptocracy.
He added that it would remain an inclusive Malay-based party without trampling on the rights of other races.
On Wednesday, FMT reported that Pejuang Youth chief Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin said there was a major push from the party grassroots and mid-level leadership to review its membership in Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) following its dismal performance in the 15th general election (GE15).
He also said there was pressure from the grassroots for the party to consider working with a political coalition that shared its aspirations so that it could play a role in the country’s evolving politics post-GE15.
His statement came in the wake of GTA’s announcement that it would continue working on getting itself registered as an official political coalition.
Pejuang’s candidates, including its chairman, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, lost in all the 125 seats it contested in GE15. Every candidate also lost their deposit.
Earlier this year, the party also had a disastrous debut in the Johor state election when all 42 candidates failed to get elected and lost their deposits.
