Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal claimed Anwar was trying to build a negative perception against PN amid the elections for the Padang Serai parliamentary and Tioman state seats.
The Bersatu Youth chief said the report showed that PN took the prime minister’s claims seriously and had nothing to hide from the authorities.
PAS had told Anwar to furnish evidence after implying that gaming companies, particularly those that took part in “special draws” for 4D numbers, had partially funded PN’s election campaign.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said if Anwar failed to show any proof to back his “wild accusation”, PN would consider taking legal action.
Asked if PN will disclose the breakdown of its political funding to counter Anwar’s claim, Wan Fayhsal said no, as no other party had done that before.
He said PN was ready to debate the highly anticipated political financing bill in Parliament when the next session convenes.
“If that (political funding Act) is the priority, then so be it,” he said.
The bill was slated to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat last month, but Parliament was dissolved in October to make way for the general election.
A political financing law regulates how parties and politicians receive and use money by ensuring disclosure of the source of funds and donations as well as the amounts received.
Proponents of the law argue that it is essential to hold political parties and politicians accountable, ensure transparency over funds, and prevent misappropriation, bribery, fraud or abuse of power where funding is concerned.
