Liu apologises to BN man over project approved by PR govt

The DAP assemblyman had claimed that a project which involved chopping down mangrove plants in Sungai Ayer Tawar was approved by Barisan Nasional.

Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu has admitted that an agricultural project in Sungai Ayer Tawar was approved by the then Pakatan Rakyat state government.
SHAH ALAM:
Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu has apologised to Selangor opposition leader Rizam Ismail for a squabble in the state assembly over a Selangor Agricultural Development Corp (PKPS) project in Sungai Ayer Tawar.

Liu, of Pakatan Harapan, admitted that the project was approved during the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) administration, not when Barisan Nasional was the state government.

“I would like to apologise to the opposition leader over what happened in the previous session when he brought up the PKPS issue since it involved the beaches under his constituency, Sungai Ayer Tawar.

“I claimed that the project had not been approved by the PH government, but after checking further, I discovered that it had been (approved by PR),” the DAP man told the assembly today.

Previously, Rizam (BN-Sungai Ayer Tawar) had questioned whether the state government had taken any steps to preserve mangrove plants at Kampung Dato Hormat in Sungai Ayer Tawar following the setting up of a large-scale oil palm plantation project in the area in 2008.

Former state executive councillor Elizabeth Wong (PH-Bukit Lanjan) had denied that approval to chop down the mangrove plants was granted after PR came to power in Selangor.

The state assembly then descended into chaos, with PH and BN assemblymen hurling accusations against each other over the project.
