New Covid-19 cases down 2.5% to 18,606 last week

The number of hospital admissions increased by 5.1% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.

A total of 4,984,272 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.

The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped last week by 2.5% to 18,606 from 19,083 a week before, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending Nov 26, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 and 2 was up by 3.4% per 100,000 cases from the preceding week, while Category 3, 4 and 5 patients rose by 4.1%.

The number of hospital admissions increased by 5.1% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases rose by 1%, while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds also increased by 1%.

Noor Hisham said there were 27,020 active cases as of last week.

“Recoveries decreased by 19.0% from 23,089 to 18,699.

“The number of deaths increased by 17.0% from 47 to 55, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,648,” he said in a statement.

He also said 4,984,272 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.
