Nur Jazlan said the coalition’s leaders must admit their past mistakes and find ways to make amends so that BN could rise from its defeat.
“I think that should be our main priority, rather than getting caught up with issues involving the party’s constitution and rules.
“That’s why BN lost in GE15. Many have yet to learn from their mistakes in the 2018 general election (GE14). They’re still blaming others without looking at their own faults,” he said in a Facebook post.
BN suffered its worst defeat in the nationwide polls on Nov 19, winning only 30 parliamentary seats.
Its two rival coalitions Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 82 seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won 73.
Nur Jazlan also said it was not fair to place all blame on BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and demand his resignation for the coalition’s poor performance.
“If that’s the case, then all Umno and BN state leaders should also resign from their positions,” he said, adding that this would also apply to the coalition’s Supreme Council members and wing chiefs who lost in GE15.
He said if they’re not prepared to step down as well, then they should not be demanding others to do the same.
He admitted to being in the group of BN candidates who lost in the nationwide polls, but said he had never urged Zahid to step down.
Nur Jazlan contested for the Pulai parliamentary seat but lost to PH candidate Salahuddin Ayub.
Nur Jazlan was Pulai MP for three terms before Salahuddin won the seat in GE14.
