The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, will be granting an audience to Pakatan Harapan (PH) leader Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin at 4.30pm.
In a statement, Istana Negara said no single MP had the simple majority to be appointed the prime minister.
On Saturday, PH and Muda secured 82 seats, followed by PN with 73. Barisan Nasional (BN) only managed 30 seats.
The inability of the three main coalitions to secure a simple majority, led to PN holding talks with the ruling coalitions in East Malaysia, namely Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.
BN leaders, meanwhile, held talks with those from PH, although Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob later said that BN would not back either PH or PN and remain in opposition.
