ALOR SETAR:
Kedah will maintain its stand to not dissolve the state legislative assembly before March despite the strong showing by Perikatan Nasional in the general election.

PN won 13 of the 14 parliamentary seats in the state on Saturday.

Menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor said the dissolution of the state assembly will only be done at any time after March.

“We don’t want to hold an election now because floods are expected to occur between November and March. After March, the dissolution of the state assembly can be done at any time. If not done within that period, it will dissolve by itself in July.

“We have to take into account all aspects because of the monsoon. The floods usually end in March and after that, we will fast and celebrate Aidilfitri, (followed by) Aidiladha.

“Besides, I have to discuss with Kelantan and Terengganu first, to hold the state elections together for more impact,” he told reporters here last night.

Earlier, Sanusi, who is also the Kedah PN chairman, attended a thanksgiving ceremony with the newly elected PN MPs. They were joined by thousands of party supporters at the PAS complex at Kota Sarang Semut, near here.
