Guan Eng’s sister among Penang DAP candidates forging ahead

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng and his sister Lim Hui Ying, who is making her electoral debut, were among Pakatan Harapan candidates in Penang who were leading in their parliamentary contests this evening, based on unofficial early returns.

Guan Eng, who is seeking a fourth term in Bagan, had polled over 2,700 votes while Hui Ying, with over 4,400 votes, was ahead of her rivals from BN and PN in Tanjong.

Another parliamentary debutant, former state assembly member Syerleena Abdul Rashid, was also leading in her contest in Bukit Bendera. She had polled over 2,800 votes and is ahead of her three rivals in Bukit Bendera, which was previously won by Wong Hon Wai.

Other PH candidates from DAP making headway in Penang were Steven Sim in Bukit Mertajam, RSN Rayer in Jelutong and Ramkarpal Singh in Bukit Gelugor. All three are seeking re-election.

Loke and Chong also in the lead

  • DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook, with 6,200 votes, is leading in Seremban, while Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen (over 18,000 votes) is leading in Stampin.
  • Others from DAP also ahead in their contests are: Gobind Singh Deo (over 9,500 votes so far) in Damansara; Yeo Bee Yin (over 8,000 votes) in Puchong; Lim Lip Eng in Kepong; Fong Kui Lun in Bukit Bintang; Dr Kelvin Yii in Bandar Kuching; and Vivian Wong in Sandakan.
