Risk of exposure to Covid-19 fails to deter Man Jaafar and Lim Foh Siong, both 94.

Man Jaafar, 94, was at his polling centre in Teroi, Kedah, as early as 7.55am.
PETALING JAYA:
Despite being at risk of exposure to Covid-19, it did not deter several Malaysians in their 90s from performing their civic duty and coming out to vote this morning.

In Jerai, Kedah, 94-year-old Man Jaafar arrived as early as 7.55am to cast his ballot at the SJKC Pei Eng polling centre in Teroi.

His son, Saiful Anwar, said Man has never missed voting in an election.

In Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Lim Foh Siong, also 94, was among the early birds at the SK Taman Midah polling centre.

According to his son, James, 57, Foh Siong has also never missed casting his ballot throughout his life.

James admitted that his father, a former bookkeeper, was initially a bit reluctant to vote because of Covid-19.

“But he then said that every vote counts, so we should perform our civic responsibility and vote. Plus, he has taken two booster shots.”

Man and Foh Siong are part of the 21,173,368 registered voters eligible to vote today.

Voting started at 7.30am in Sabah and Sarawak and 8am in the peninsula, and the polling centres will close in stages between noon and 6pm.
