New Covid-19 cases down by 13.4%, recoveries up 38.5%

The health ministry also reports an increase in hospital and quarantine centre admissions.

The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped by 13.4% last week to 23,045 from 26,616 recorded the week before, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending Nov 12, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 and 2 was down by 15.2% per 100,000 cases from the preceding week, while Category 3, 4 and 5 patients rose by 16.2%.

The number of hospital admissions increased by 14.4% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases rose by 9%, while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds increased by 5%.

Noor Hisham said there were 34,033 active cases as of last week.

“Recoveries increased by 38.5% from 20,718 to 28,704.

“The number of deaths increased by 82.8% from 29 to 53, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,546,” he said in a statement.

He also said 4,946,583 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.
