The annual conference is organised jointly by MyIskandar Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda), and Law Chambers of Vin Sa & Ian (VSI). They have lined up eight speakers for the one-day event that will be held here on Nov 16.
Their spokesperson Banu Rekha Michael said they decided on this theme as the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about huge changes to the digital economy and healthcare development leading to immense pressure on players in these sectors.
“Our annual conferences normally focus on bringing about debates and solutions to contemporary challenges. Our research found that the legal challenges are huge in these sectors and they were compounded by the pandemic.
“Among the papers to be delivered include preventing financial crimes in the digital economy which is a growing concern now. This paper will be delivered by former judicial commissioner and federal counsel Awg Armadajaya Mahmud,” she said.
Dr Razman Jarmin, the director of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Mukhriz, will touch on common mistakes that lead to negligence while senior lawyer Manmohan Singh will address medico-legal litigation in Malaysia.
Lazada’s legal division head Sahada Salihin will touch on digital economy theories and legal challenges while Singaporean lawyer Abdul Rahman will speak on the Islamic fintech paradigm.
Another senior lawyer Sathiesh K Purushotaman will be talking on consent from patients in medico-legal cases. Intelliware Solutions CEO Norlisa Francis Nordin will deliver a paper on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as a tool for transferring ownership of both virtual and physical assets and rights.
Banu Rekha said speakers will also discuss the virtual management of legal and judicial processes which is on the rise now following the pandemic.
She said this programme is also part of Iskandar Malaysia’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) event where they are offering free participation to university students.
“About 200 people from the related sectors will be attending the conference.”
