They say the two-term MP from PKR is quick to resolve problems faced by the constituents such as poor road conditions and clogged drains.

PETALING JAYA:
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Subang, Wong Chen has received a nod of approval from constituents, who say they are likely to vote for him again at the general election (GE15).

A housewife, who gave her name as Liew, said she was grateful to Wong for his contributions to USJ1, specifically in reinstating the government health clinic here.

“He worked with health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and revived a project that was cancelled. This is good news for the ageing population in the area who can’t travel far to other government hospitals or clinics,” she said.

She added that Wong and his team were also quick to resolve problems such as poor road conditions and clogged drains that caused flash floods.

“If he is re-elected, I hope he continues his good work and also looks into the traffic congestion in USJ1,” she said.

Street vendor, Yahya Anuar, 48, said he was happy with the PKR leader’s performance and all he has done to help the constituents.

“There have been a lot of positive changes in the area and many of my friends think so too. We are definitely satisfied,” he said.

Yahya said he was confident PH would win the Subang seat because Wong had the support of the masses unlike candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Wong is in a three-cornered fight with Kow Cheong Wei (BN) and Ang Hiang Ni (PN).

In the 2018 general election (GE14), Wong won with a landslide majority of 92,353 votes. He made his parliamentary debut in 2013, winning the same seat, which was then known as Kelana Jaya.

First-time voter Priyanka Nathan said Wong’s experience sets him apart from the other candidates, making him the best choice for the constituency.

“The other candidates from BN and PN are non-starters because I don’t know them and I think that’s what most people from Subang feel too,” she said.

The 22-year-old pointed out that voters were more likely to vote for someone they were comfortable with and whom they could trust.

“Also, he recently declared his assets which makes him an honest representative. I believe Subang voters will respect this,” she said.

Another voter, who wished to remain anonymous, said Subang voters were educated and know “for a fact” that Wong is the better candidate.

“He will win, no doubt about that. He has proven himself in Parliament and he represents a coalition that wants change, something many voters are hungry for,” said the 50-year-old retiree.

Checks on Wong’s Facebook also revealed that supporters were appreciative of his service over the last four years.

However, back on the ground, goreng pisang seller Mohamad Zulkifli was not particularly impressed by Wong or any of the other candidates.

He said he was bored of politics in general.

“I have not seen them on the ground. All I see are flags and banners. I don’t know, maybe this time I will try voting for PN,” said the 38-year-old.
