The BN chairman said the coalition was committed to its war against graft and wanted to do away with the perception that BN was corrupted, Bernama reported.
“When BN comes to power (after the 15th general election), we will take action against those involved in corruption, including people from BN or any party.
“That is my guarantee. We will ensure the perception (that BN was corrupted) is wrong by not appointing politicians as the MACC chief. It would be completely independent,” he was quoted as saying, adding it was not mere rhetoric.
BN leaders have in the past criticised Pakatan Harapan for appointing a prominent party member, Latheefa Koya, as chief commissioner of MACC on a two-year contract from June 2019. She resigned in March 2020 after the fall of the PH government headed by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Both BN and PH had come under fire from Perikatan Nasional information chief Azmin Ali who recently questioned how either coalition would form a clean government when they both had fielded candidates facing corruption charges.
Last month, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang claimed that some leaders in Umno, the lynchpin of BN, were corrupt.
