
In Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, police are investigating one such case involving Barisan Nasional (BN) flags and posters, while in Melaka, Pakatan Harapan (PH) is facing the same problem.
Brickfields district police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the earlier case has been classified under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing loss or damage.
The offence carries a jail term of one to five years or a fine or both upon conviction.
Also in TTDI, campaign material for former Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh were also vandalised by unidentified persons, with the DAP leader expressing disappointment over the matter.
In Kampung Parit Kuari, Melaka, more than 200 PH flags have been removed and thrown into the gutter.
The coalition’s candidate in Ayer Hitam, Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said his volunteers had spent six hours putting up the flags only to see them in the drain yesterday morning.
“We are extremely disappointed with this ‘rowdy’ behaviour and condemn anyone who employs dirty tactics in this general election,” the DAP man said in a Facebook post.
Separately, Yeoh urged all parties to campaign without resorting to dirty tactics.
In Penang, a poster of PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar had been defaced and then torn.
Nonetheless, Nurul Izzah, who is contesting in Permatang Pauh, remains resolute. “It may be torn, but my spirit remains strong. Insyaallah,” she said in a tweet.
