He said PSB, which won only four seats out of the 72 seats it contested in the 12th state election last year, was merely playing the role of a “spoiler” in the 15th general election (GE15).
“That’s the only role that PSB is playing in this general election. The party can’t expect to win seats,” he told reporters in Sibu today.
Chong urged PSB president Wong Soon Koh and Priscilla Lau – the Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) candidate who is standing in Lanang under the PSB symbol – to withdraw from GE15.
“Nothing is greater than the interest of the nation and that of all Malaysians.
“People are suffering due to inflation, among other things. The cost of living has gone up, food prices continue to rise, the ringgit’s value has fallen, and Bank Negara has increased the interest rate,” he said.
Chong, who is defending his Stampin seat, is in a three-cornered fight with Lo Khere Chiang of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and PBK’s Lue Cheng Hing, who is contesting under the PSB logo.
Wong is up against DAP’s Oscar Ling and GPS’ Clarence Ting in Sibu.
