I’ll emulate Karpal Singh if elected, says Deepak

GE15 hopeful Deepak Jaikishan says he will act without fear or favour in the Dewan Rakyat.

PETALING JAYA:
Deepak Jaikishan aspires to be like the late Karpal Singh and speak up without fear or favour in the Dewan Rakyat, if elected.

The businessman is standing as an independent candidate for the Klang parliamentary seat in the general election (GE15).

Deepak is known for being a friend-turned-foe of former prime minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

He said his willingness to stand up to the duo even when Najib was in office showed that nothing could stop him.

Deepak said voters should know that whatever accusations he made against Najib and Rosmah were never denied by either of them.

He added that he has been involved in several legal suits with the former prime minister and his wife over the last 12 years.

“I can assure Klang voters that if elected I will be the bravest and most vocal MP, just like the late Karpal Singh.

“I will bow down to no one except God. I also know that in my crusade against corruption and kleptocracy, I am not alone, as all Malaysians are with me,” he told reporters.

Asked why he chose to stand in Klang, Deepak said since he felt strongly against corruption, which has destroyed the nation, he drew inspiration from the Sultan of Selangor’s recent warning that politicians who only seek power and wealth would destroy the nation.

In a Facebook post by the Selangor Royal Office on Oct 21, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said a leader who does not uphold the values of integrity, honesty and trust would fall victim to corruption, abuse of power, breach of trust and spreading slander, which could harm the community.

“Leaders who betray, deceive and abuse power to accumulate personal wealth will definitely be hated by the people and cursed by God. If the leader is broken, the country will be broken,” the ruler said.

Deepak then touched on the issue of MPs having to toe the party line even if they did not agree with certain actions by their leaders.

“There needs to be more MPs who are willing to speak up against wrongdoings by those in power even at the expense of them being sidelined.

“This includes Pakatan Harapan MPs who were against the opposition’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob but dared not speak up against their leaders.

“The MoU is the greatest betrayal by the opposition and the government as the check and balance role was eroded after that,” he said.

Deepak also questioned Pakatan Harapan (PH) for having an MoU with a Barisan Nasional government led by Umno.

“Isn’t Umno the flag bearer of corruption? This shows that decisions by PH leaders have always been more political and about winning power rather than creating a balance. This is the role I want to play as an independent,” he said.

Asked how we would be able to serve Klang constituents should he win in GE15, Deepak said he will unveil his manifesto on Thursday.
