PKR mulls change in Sungai Buloh candidate

The party had previously named former MIC treasurer-general R Ramanan, who will be making his debut in a general election.

PETALING JAYA:
PKR may consider changing its candidate for the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat in the general election, says deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

This comes after Umno’s Khairy Jamluddin was named the Barisan Nasional candidate for the seat last night.

The seat was won by PKR’s R Sivarasa in GE14 after he secured a 26,634-vote majority against PAS’ Nuridah Salleh.

PKR announced last week that Pakatan Harapan will field R Ramanan, a former MIC treasurer-general, for the seat. He will be making his debut in a general election.

“I will discuss with Anwar (Ibrahim) about the feedback we have received from voters in Sungai Buloh about the current PKR candidate,” Rafizi said in a tweet.

“I value all views.

“The final decision will be made by him (Anwar) as the president.”

Sivarasa had held the Sungai Buloh seat since 2008. One of the party’s longest-serving members, he was among the former PKR MPs who will not be defending their seats in GE15.

Meanwhile, Khairy, the health minister, is contesting the seat for the first time after holding the Rembau seat for the past three terms.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan will contest the Rembau seat as he wants a role in federal politics.
