KUALA LUMPUR:
MCA will be contesting the Batu parliamentary seat instead of MIC following discussions with Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last night, says party president Wee Ka Siong.

At a press conference, Wee said it was agreed MCA would contest Batu after the party “handed” the Padang Serai seat to MIC.

“After meeting with the BN chairman, it’s confirmed that Batu is indeed MCA’s,” Wee said.

Yesterday, during the unveiling of BN’s candidates for the general election (GE15), it was initially announced that MIC’s A Kohilan Pillay would be standing in Batu.

Wee added that MCA’s candidate for Batu will be party vice-president Yew Teong Look.

“I leave any minor changes that have yet to be announced to the BN headquarters (to announce) as per the chairman’s instructions,” he said.

Wee also cleared the air regarding BN’s candidate for the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat, confirming that MCA’s Chew Yin Keen would indeed be contesting there.

Chew is the Bandar Tun Razak MCA chief.

“As per the list of candidates distributed by BN headquarters, the Bandar Tun Razak seat was handed over to MCA whose candidate is Chew Yin Keen,” said Wee.

“This is a confirmation that we want to make to the media.”
