BN’s candidate for Larut seat pulls out

Popular Islamic preacher Kazim Elias has pulled out of contesting the Larut parliamentary seat for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election.

Shafiq Fhadly Mahmud will replace Kazim, Sinar Harian quoted Perak BN chief Saarani Mohamad as saying.

“There has been a change in the Larut parliamentary seat as Kazim pulled out at the last minute,” said Saarani at a BN Perak event in Ipoh.

Kazim was among those announced as BN’s candidates for GE15 last night.

Bernama reported that Shafiq is BN’s chief communications coordinator.

The Larut seat was won by Hamzah Zainudin in GE14 when he was with Umno.

Currently the Perikatan Nasional secretary-general, Hamzah was among the 10 Umno MPs who left the party in December 2018.

PN yesterday confirmed that Hamzah, who is also the Bersatu secretary-general, will defend his seat on Nov 19.

Pakatan Harapan will be fielding Amanah’s Zolkharnain Abidin for the seat.
