MUAR:
Police have identified 100 areas with “hotspot status” in the 15th general election (GE15).

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said his men had been assigned to be stationed at all the identified hotspots.

“Through intelligence from the district police, we know some areas are quite ‘hot’ in terms of campaigns, emotional sentiments and so on.

“Having identified them, we are taking steps to ‘cool rising temperatures’ when campaigning begins later,” he said after the closing ceremony of the Tiger Platoon’s basic course at the General Operations Force’s 6th Battalion Camp here today.

Acryl Sani said a policeman would be stationed at each polling channel.

This will involve more than 38,000 channels. Other personnel will be on patrol duty.

“We must ensure there are no elements that disrupt public order,” he said.

Previously, Acryl Sani was reported to have said that 94,411 out of 120,557 police personnel will be mobilised to face GE15.

The Election Commission has set polling day for Nov 19, with nominations on Nov 5 and early voting on Nov 15.
