PETALING JAYA:
PKR’s decision to field two Amanah members as its candidates in the upcoming general election (GE15) should not be an issue as they will be contesting under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) banner, says Anwar Ibrahim.

The PKR chief said there was no conflict over the decision to field them as their own candidates, adding that it was agreed upon by PH, of which he is the chairman.

Yesterday, PKR revealed Amanah members Husam Musa and Nik Omar Nik Aziz as PKR’s candidates for Pasir Mas in Kelantan and Pasir Salak in Perak respectively.

“There is no problem. They are contesting under the PH banner. These seats are under the PKR allocation,” Anwar told reporters after an event today.

He said after some deliberations, Nik Omar was found to be not suitable to contest in his home state of Kelantan. As such, they offered him the Pasir Salak seat.

He also said the relationship among PH’s component parties was at its strongest and one that was “tough to break”.

Husam told reporters yesterday that Amanah and PKR are “siblings” and there was no issue standing as a candidate in either party. He said he would soon apply to be a PKR member since he was nominated by the party to be a candidate.

Recently, Amanah deputy chief Salahuddin Ayub said Nik Omar’s Amanah membership will not be questioned following his PKR candidacy, Sinar Harian reported.

Separately, Anwar said he was satisfied with the denial made by PAS chief Abdul Hadi Awang after he was alleged to have written letters to Islamic scholars claiming Anwar was a Freemason.

“I asked Hadi for an explanation and he has since denied this claim. For me, that is good enough,” he said.
