Changkat Jong is ours, says Loke

DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook responds to Amanah naming its candidate for the state seat in Perak, saying PH 'top three' have decided.

Loke Siew Fook says Amanah declaring Changkat Jong was theirs is a misunderstanding that could be resolved.
IPOH:
There will be no clash between DAP and Amanah for the Changkat Jong state seat in Perak in the 15th general election (GE15), says DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

Loke said there was a misunderstanding between the two Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties because a decision had already been made by the presidential council prior to the announcement on DAP candidates in Perak last night.

“It was decided by the ‘top three’ before the recent PH convention. Therefore, we did not announce something that was not decided. It was finalised at the top level,” he said referring to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and himself as DAP secretary-general.

“There will be no clash because there is only one PH candidate in Changkat Jong, that is from DAP. There could have been a misunderstanding that can be resolved.”

He was speaking to reporters after the announcement of PH-DAP candidates for Perak, last night.

In the meeting, Loke announced that the party would be contesting 19 state seats, with the addition of one seat compared with GE14, that is Changkat Jong, represented by Badrul Hisham Badarudin.

However, earlier yesterday, it was reported that Perak Amanah would be contesting in 20 state assembly seats, with Changkat Jong to be represented by state vice-president Muhaimin Sulam.

Loke said the party would be contesting eight parliamentary seats, one more than what the party had contested in GE14, namely Gerik which will be contested by Ahmad Tarmizi Mohd Jam aside from all seven seats won in the previous election, namely Ipoh Timor, Ipoh Barat, Kampar, Batu Gajah, Teluk Intan, Beruas, and Taiping.

Perak has 59 state assembly seats and 24 Parliamentary seats.

GE15 will take place on Nov 19, with nomination day on Nov 5 and early voting set for Nov 15.
