PUTRAJAYA:
Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir will be defending his Jerlun parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15), in hopes of retaining the seat for a third term.

At a press conference, Pejuang chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad also announced that the party’s federal territories chief, Khairuddin Abu Hassan, will be contesting the Titiwangsa seat.

Titiwangsa is shaping up as one of the constituencies to watch in GE15, with former second finance minister Johari Ghani, former federal territories minister Khalid Samad, and Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal also said to be setting their sights on the seat.

Mahathir also announced that Pejuang secretary-general Amiruddin Hamzah will be defending his Kubang Pasu seat. Amiruddin is a former deputy finance minister.

Jeram assemblyman Shaid Rosli, formerly of Bersatu, will be standing in Kuala Selangor.

Meanwhile, Pejuang Wanita chief Che Asmah Ibrahim and Perak Pejuang chief Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi will be vying for the Sepang and Tapah seats, respectively.

Khairuddin was the Bersatu candidate for the Jasin parliamentary seat in the last general election (GE14) in May 2018, where he contested under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) ticket. He lost to Barisan Nasional’s Ahmad Hamzah by 219 votes.

It was previously reported that all candidates under the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) coalition will be contesting under the Pejuang banner in GE15.

Mahathir said this was because the coalition failed to be registered with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) in time for the nationwide polls.

Mahathir reiterated that GTA will be contesting up to 120 parliamentary seats.

GTA is a loose coalition comprising Malay-based parties, NGOs, academics and professionals. Its main component parties are Pejuang, Putra, the National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman) and Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa).
