PETALING JAYA:
Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, the son of a former PAS spiritual leader, will contest for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Perak, the coalition’s chairman Anwar Ibrahim has announced.

Nik Omar is the second child of former PAS leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Anwar also said former Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) CEO Saipolyazan Mat Yusop will contest for PH in Perak.

The pair were among seven candidates announced by Anwar at PKR’s headquarters here. He did not state if they would be contesting for PKR or other PH component parties.

The other five candidates announced were former public service department (JPA) deputy director-general Zainal Azman Abu Seman, former Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) vice-chancellor Hassan Basri Awang and Universiti Malaya lecturer Dr Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz.

Also unveiled as PH candidates were Jufitri Joha, a former president of the Malaysia Youth Council, and 28-year-old Fathin Amelina Fazlie.

Zainal will be fielded in Perak, Hassan in Pahang, Noraishah in Kuala Lumpur, Jufitri in Negeri Sembilan, and Fathin in Perlis.

PKR’s election director Rafizi Ramli said the details of the state or parliamentary seats that the seven candidates would be contesting would be revealed this Friday.

The PKR deputy president said the new candidates would give voters the chance to see fresher ideas from the opposition coalition.

“I don’t think this is a gamble. I would say it’s a good move for PKR to field new faces,” he said.

Malaysians will go to the polls for GE15 on Nov 19, with early voting set for Nov 15. Nominations will be on Nov 5.
