KUALA LUMPUR:
Former Raub MP Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji has denied allegations that he had linked Pahang royalty with former prime minister Najib Razak’s corruption cases in a speech in Mentakab last week.

The DAP deputy secretary-general alleged that those who were making these claims were trying to “spin” his words.

“If you watch my speech, it’s very straightforward. I didn’t mention the (Pahang) royalty, just the ‘orang besar empat’ Pahang.

“I just said, within the institution, there are ‘orang besar’ who are guilty, so as a Pahangite, I feel embarrassed too. I don’t think I insulted anyone, people are just spinning (my words),” he said at the DAP headquarters here.

Yesterday, 20 police reports were filed by several Pahang NGOs against Tengku Zulpuri at the Kuantan district police headquarters (IPD) over his speech on Oct 19.

A representative of one of the NGOs, Tengku Abdul Manan Aziz, told Sinar Harian that they wanted action to be taken against Tengku Zulpuri.

He claimed that the DAP leader’s speech could incite hate against the monarchy.

A clip of Tengku Zulpuri’s speech showed that he had described the “orang besar berempat Pahang” as thieves.
