PH women’s wing calls for Wan Azizah to be fielded

No decision has been made, says party president Anwar Ibrahim, who also said he has yet to decide which constituency he would contest.

PKR adviser Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was elected MP for Pandan in 2018. However, Rafizi Ramli is expected to contest there.
PETALING JAYA:
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said the party is considering a request from the women’s wing of Pakatan Harapan (PH) for Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to contest in the 15th general election.

“There is a request from Wanita (PH) on that and we will consider it. So far there’s no decision made on the matter,” he said in a media conference in Shah Alam today.

Wan Azizah, who is PKR advisory council chairman, won the Pandan constituency seat in the 14th general election.

However, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, who served as Pandan MP from 2013 to 2018, is expected to contest in the constituency.

Anwar said he has yet to decide which constituency he will be contesting in the upcoming polls.

“I don’t know whether I will contest or where I will contest,” he said.

Separately, Anwar reiterated that it’s not wrong for Amanah to suggest contesting in seats allocated to Bersatu in the previous election.

But he stressed that the final decision would be made by the state leadership council before being brought forward to the central leadership.

Earlier, Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa said PH’s policy clearly stated that all component parties could request to contest in seats that were allocated to Bersatu.
