Amanah rep turned independent says sorry, stays out of GE15

Hasnul Zulkarnian Abd Munaim says he wants to make up for his previous political mistake and will help Amanah and PH in the election campaign.

Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim has pledged to help Amanah and Pakatan Harapan in their election campaign.
PETALING JAYA:
A Perak state assemblyman who left Amanah to support the Bersatu-led state government two years ago has decided to sit out the general election in atonement for his past “mistake”.

Hasnul Zulkarnian Abd Munaim also pledged to help Amanah and Pakatan Harapan in their election campaign.

“This is a tough decision to make but it is to make up for past political mistakes,” he said in a statement.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided not to contest in GE15 and would like to apologise to my supporters in Titi Serong.”

Hasnul was elected to the Titi Serong seat in Kerian district, Perak, in 2018. He defeated Norsalewati Mat Norwani of Barisan Nasional by 140 votes.

He left Amanah in 2020, together with Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong and Buntong assemblyman A Sivasubramaniam, both of DAP, following the formation of the Perikatan Nasional government in Perak.

Hasnul declared himself an independent assembly member supporting Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Perak menteri besar.

In December that year, Faizal lost the confidence vote and was replaced by Saarani Mohamad.

Saarani has said he would seek royal consent tomorrow to dissolve the state assembly, allowing for simultaneous state and parliamentary elections.
