Hadi hoping for Umno, Bersatu reconciliation to save ‘PN govt’

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s remark comes amid speculation that Parliament could be dissolved, paving the way for the next general election.

PETALING JAYA:
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang says the party will continue to play peacemaker between its warring allies, Umno and Bersatu, with the hope of saving the “Perikatan Nasional (PN) government”.

Hadi’s statement comes amid intense speculation that Parliament could be dissolved, paving the way for the next general election (GE15).

The Marang MP said PAS and Umno had forged Muafakat Nasional (MN) after GE14 and that the two parties later agreed to include Bersatu in the pact.

“PAS believes in ‘wasatiyyah’ (moderation) by being in the middle of the dispute that could undo the saving of the PN government.”

Hadi advised Umno and Bersatu to stop fighting as it would only make both parties “fail and lose strength”.

Earlier today, it was reported that 12 PN ministers sent a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong stating their stand against GE15 being held this year.

Speculation on GE15 taking place soon intensified after Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob reportedly said that he would propose the date for the dissolution of Parliament during his audience with the King today, “if time permits”.
