In running polls spat, Warisan hits back at Anwar, DAP

PKR is blamed for causing the fall of Pakatan Harapan by pushing for Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, while DAP is accused of backstabbing.

In mid-2021, Anwar Ibrahim and Shafie Apdal were both named by the opposition as possible candidates to be prime minister.
PETALING JAYA:
Two Warisan leaders have hit back at Pakatan Harapan components PKR and DAP, as the spat between the party and the opposition coalition drags on.

Warisan Youth information chief Khairuddin Daud said PKR’s push for Anwar Ibrahim to be named as the prime minister was to blame for the downfall of Pakatan Harapan two years after the 2018 general election.

Khairuddin said the continuous pressure from PKR for its president to be appointed to the top post caused PH to lose focus in implementing their manifesto.

His said this in response to PKR deputy information chief Razeef Rakimin’s claim that Warisan president Shafie Apdal was panicking and deflecting his own failures as Sabah chief minister by blaming PH.

Shafie was reported to have said there was no point supporting national parties like DAP and PKR, as their leaders had failed to deliver the rights Sabah had been promised when PH was in power.

Khairuddin said Razeef had to accept that PKR was not well received in Sabah, despite being established in the state for so long.

“Even in the 2020 state elections, with its own logo, PKR only won two out of seven seats given to them, compared to DAP (contesting under Warisan Plus) which won more seats,” Khairuddin said.

He added that Warisan also managed to draw more of the popular vote than Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.

“The cause of PH’s failure was their internal turmoil.”

Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr called out DAP for backstabbing Warisan by trying to sign a political agreement with the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah after the state elections in September 2020.

Despite Shafie having included DAP in his state Cabinet, the party was still prepared to work with the coalition that had attempted to topple the Warisan Plus government in the first place, said Padua.

“So where is the integrity and credibility that they are talking about and who is the real ‘trojan horse’ here?” he said. He added that Warisan opted out of the ceasefire MoU as it wanted to ensure its integrity.

Yesterday, Sabah DAP chairman Frankie Poon accused Shafie of betraying his former allies and giving BN and PN the upper hand, calling Warisan a “trojan horse” that will split the opposition votes.
