Selangor fire and rescue department director Norazam Khamis said a special net was used to capture the animal.
“Personnel from the wildlife and national parks department tranquilised the panther before putting it in a special cage,” he said in a statement tonight.
Norazam said the operation ended about four hours later at 7.10pm and the panther was handed over to the wildlife and national parks department.
Black panthers are a variety of the leopard species (Panthera pardus). Malaysia is home to the largest population of black panthers in the world but loss of habitat and poaching have endangered the survival of the panther as well as the tiger and clouded leopard.
