Selayang MP William Leong said dissolving the PSC was too drastic, though he shared Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong’s disappointment in the committee’s lack of action over issues of public interest.
Instead, he urged the PSC’s chairman, Kuala Krai MP Latiff Abdul Rahman, to ensure that it functioned optimally and that its investigation into MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki’s ownership of shares would continue.
“I hope the chairman of the PSC will call for a meeting and take action over this matter,” he told FMT.
Yesterday, Khoo said the PSC had failed to scrutinise and hold the government accountable on key public interest issues, attributing it to a lack of political will and leadership.
He said “major public interest issues” like the shares ownership scandal involving Azam were still unresolved.
Khoo also said the PSC had convened only three times this year. He was also disappointed that his proposal to summon MACC to brief the committee about the littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal was not taken up by Latiff.
Aside from Latiff, Leong and Khoo, the PSC also comprises Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (Pasir Salak), Nizar Zakaria (Parit), Azis Jamman (Sepanggar), Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (Setiu), Anyi Ngau (Baram) and Chan Foong Hin (Kota Kinabalu).
