PETALING JAYA:
PAS leader Nik Abduh Nik Aziz has sought to ease criticism over his letter to the Kota Bharu municipal council (MPKB) requesting services for his children’s weddings, saying the event at Masjid Tok Guru was also a “feast for the people”.

He said it was a thanksgiving event for his extended family, which had not been held since his father, former Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, died seven years ago.

“We extended an invite to the entire local community, including friends and former students of my father. There were about 8,000 to 10,000 guests in attendance,” the Bachok MP said in a Facebook post.

Among those present were Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob, his deputy, Amar Abdullah, and PAS leaders from the ulama council and central leadership.

Nik Abduh thanked the council, the police and the works department for helping to facilitate the event and ensuring that it went on smoothly.

He had drawn brickbats after he wrote to MPKB seeking “cooperation” to provide traffic control, waste management services, tables, chairs, and flower decorations for his daughter and son’s weddings, which were held simultaneously on Saturday.

MPKB president Rosnazli Amin had confirmed receiving the request, but did not say whether they had approved it or if any payment had been made by Nik Abduh.

The request prompted DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng to urge the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the PAS MP for abuse of power.
