
In Johor, floods hit Batu Pahat following heavy rain and a high tide phenomenon early Wednesday morning. As of 8am today, the number of victims at relief centres dropped to 131 from 164 last night.
In a statement, the district disaster management committee said all the victims, comprising 33 families, were placed at a temporary relief centre at SMK Seri Gading here, which was opened last Wednesday.
The committee said affected locations in the district include Taman Sri Panchor, Kampung Sengkuang, Kampung Baru Sri Gading, Pekan Seri Gading and Kampung Seri Tanjung.
In Perak, a spokesman for the state disaster management committee said the number of flood victims at Kampung Tengah Bukit Semanggol near Bagan Serai remained at 12 from three families as of 9am.
The spokesman said all of the victims are expected to return to their respective homes today as the floods have receded and the weather is good.
Heavy rain for several hours early yesterday morning caused the Kampung Tengah Bukit Semanggol area to be hit by flash floods, with people moved to the temporary relief centre which opened at noon.
In Melaka, the number of flood victims in two temporary relief centres located in Alor Gajah fell to 28 from eight families as of 8.30am, compared to 29 from nine families at 8pm yesterday.
In a statement, the civil defence force in Melaka said 20 victims from four families were relocated to the Balai Raya temporary relief centre in Bukit Balai while eight people from four families were placed at a temporary relief centre in Bukit Tambun.
“The affected victims are residents from Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Bukit Balai and Kampung Pulau,” it said.
