Licence being renewed, says e-hailing firm after JPJ shut it down

The firm was shut down by JPJ yesterday after it was found to be running on an expired operating licence.

JPJ raided e-hailing firm inDriver’s office yesterday and confiscated computers and advertising materials.
PETALING JAYA:
E-hailing firm inDriver says it is working on renewing its licence to continue providing services.

The firm was shut down by the road transport department (JPJ) yesterday after its investigations into unlicensed e-hailing service providers found that the company had been operating without a valid licence.

“We are working very closely with the land public transport agency (Apad) to conclude the (licence renewal) process as soon as possible,” the firm said in a statement.

“In this regard, the process is taking longer than anticipated as we are required by Apad to make adjustments to certain features on our app before our renewal application can be reviewed and granted approval.”

inDriver added that it would continue its engagement with Apad and other relevant authorities to conclude the process as soon as possible.

JPJ raided the firm’s office in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 7, upon receiving information from Apad. The firm’s computers and advertising materials were confiscated during the raid.

The department said the firm could be charged under Section 12A(1)(8) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010, which provides for a maximum RM500,000 fine, up to three years in jail or both.
