China firm owes us RM25mil, say LRT3 subcontractors, suppliers

The group claims the amount has been overdue for more than a year.

Subcontractors and suppliers of the LRT3 project took part in a peaceful protest to highlight their predicament.
SHAH ALAM:
A group consisting of subcontractors and local suppliers for the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project are demanding over RM25 million in alleged outstanding payments.

More than 50 subcontractors and local suppliers for the LRT3 package GS05 and GS06 took part in a peaceful demonstration at Seksyen 1, Shah Alam, today.

They requested China Railway 17th Bureau Group (M) Sdn Bhd (CRCC17) to settle the outstanding amount, which has been overdue for more than a year.

Rozaini Aziz, managing director of Izani Wawasan Enterprise Sdn Bhd, said that suppliers and subcontractors that completed work under both the packages had not been paid.

“Every month, the CRCC17 project director promised that the payment will be made,” he said when met at the rally.

“However, the promises are never kept, and every time we ask CRCC17 officers to settle the outstanding payment, it is still not made.”

Rozaini said several meetings have been held with the higher management of CRCC17, adding that the subcontractors’ representatives had also sent letters to various parties that were involved in the LRT3 project.

He added that the subcontractors and local suppliers involved were getting desperate, and had no choice but to hold the protest in the hope that they would be paid.

The LRT3 project spans 37.8km and includes a 2km underpass. The project started in August 2015 and is expected to be completed on Feb 28, 2024.

The project consists of 20 stations and 20,000 parking lots. Each route will be able to transport 18,630 passengers in an hour.

FMT has reached out to transport minister Wee Ka Siong and rail operator Prasarana for comment.

FMT has also reached out to the main contractor of the LRT3 project, Setia Utama LRT 3 Sdn Bhd (formerly known as MRCB George Kent Sdn Bhd), for its response.
